Looking Season 2: More Sex, But No Singing From Jonathan Groff

Looking Season 2: More Sex, But No Singing From Jonathan Groff

In just one week, HBO's Looking returns for season two.
That means we'll be seeing more hot sex scenes with Jonathan Groff, who stars in the show as Patrick, a slightly naïve video game creator who slept with his boss Kevin (Russell Tovey) in the season one finale shortly after his barber boyfriend Richie (Raúl Castillo) tells him he needs "space."
"We spend a lot of time laughing and giggling half-naked, but mostly naked," Castillo recently told me of his bedroom romps with Groff. "But you have to have a good sense of humor about those things or otherwise it would be incredibly awkward.
"I'm really lucky to get to work with the people that I do," he continued. "They create this wonderfully safe and protected environment. Everyone treats those scenes with a lot of sensitivity."
Castillo won't detail just how naked he and Groff may or may not get together in season two. "I want that to be a surprise," he said with a laugh.
One thing that probably won't be happening? Groff singing on the show. "A lot of people say they want that, but I don't think Jonathan wants to," Castillo said.
But it does sound like there could be some face-to-face drama between Richie and Kevin. "We have some stuff coming up," Castillo said. "I got to work with Russell more this season than I did last season. It was a true blast. He's a great actor and he's a lot of fun to be around." (Tovey's Instagram certainly proves how fun he is.)
Castillo just wrapped the independent film Sweets and is signed to co-star in two others,Celestina and The Brute.
He performed in two plays last year, Death and the Maiden with Grey's Anatomy's Sandra Ohand Adoration of the Old Woman on off-Broadway in the spring.
He actually received a lot of fan mail for Looking at the plays' theaters.
"It was all really, really sweet," Castillo said. "People really respond to the character in this beautiful way.
"But," he added, "sometimes they think I'm Richie."
Season two of Looking premieres Jan. 11 at 10 p.m. on HBO.
